How to Use Case Studies for the Part 2 Exam

The OGEA-102 (Part 2) and OGEA-103 combined exam tests your ability to apply TOGAF knowledge within realistic, complex scenarios. Here is how to maximise your preparation.

Understanding the Part 2 Scenario Format

The OGEA-102 Part 2 examination presents eight scenario-based questions, each built around a realistic enterprise architecture situation. Unlike Part 1 (which tests recall), Part 2 tests your ability to analyse, reason, and recommend — selecting the most appropriate TOGAF response from four gradient answer options.

Each scenario question describes an organization, its context, a specific EA challenge or decision point, and asks you to identify the best course of action according to TOGAF principles. Answers are scored on a partial-credit gradient (5-4-2-0 points), meaning even a partially correct answer earns marks — but you must distinguish the best answer from plausible alternatives.

The most common trap is selecting an answer that is correct in general practice but not the best TOGAF approach for the specific phase or context described. These case studies train you to anchor every recommendation in the relevant ADM phase and governance mechanism.

Part 2 Exam at a Glance

  • 8 scenario questions, each worth up to 5 points (40 points total)
  • Gradient scoring: best answer = 5, acceptable = 4, poor = 2, wrong = 0
  • Pass mark: 60% (24 out of 40 points)
  • Open book — you may use the TOGAF Standard during the exam
  • 90 minutes for the Part 2 section of OGEA-103
  • Questions focus on ADM phases, governance, deliverables, and stakeholder management

Identify the ADM Phase First

Before reading the answer options, determine which ADM phase or governance mechanism the scenario is describing. This narrows your frame of reference and prevents generic answers.

Spot the Deliberate Distractors

Two of the four options are usually plausible but wrong — they describe valid EA activities applied to the wrong phase or in the wrong order. TOGAF sequencing matters.

Apply Stakeholder Thinking

Many Part 2 questions involve stakeholder management decisions. Use the stakeholder map and concern-driven view selection approach from Phase A and Phase B.

Reference the TOGAF Standard Efficiently

The exam is open book, but time is tight. Practise navigating quickly to Phase objectives, inputs/outputs, and governance sections. Know the chapter structure before exam day.

Practice Timed Scenario Reading

You have roughly 11 minutes per question including reading time. Train yourself to extract the key decision context in under 2 minutes, leaving time for careful answer selection.
